How to track competitor opportunities
Find people complaining about your competitors and reach out at the right moment.
How it works
Go to Competitors in the sidebar (under Intelligence section).
The system monitors Reddit and Hacker News for posts complaining about competitors you specify. When someone says "Salesforce is too expensive" or "HubSpot support is terrible", it becomes an opportunity.
Adding competitors to track
- Click Add Competitor
- Enter the competitor name (e.g., "Salesforce", "HubSpot")
- Save
The system starts monitoring for complaints about this competitor.
Viewing opportunities
Each opportunity shows:
- Competitor being complained about
- Title of the post
- Body preview
- Platform (Reddit or Hacker News)
- Urgency score (how urgent is their need?)
- Complaint patterns (pricing, support, features, etc.)
- Direct link to the original post
Taking action
When you find a promising opportunity:
- Click the link to read the full discussion
- Assess if they're a good fit for your product
- Add them as a lead with notes about their complaint
- Generate a personalized draft addressing their specific pain
Filtering opportunities
Use filters to focus on:
- Specific competitor
- Urgency level
- Complaint type (pricing, features, support)
Best practices
- Act fast — Fresh complaints are more actionable
- Be helpful, not salesy — They're frustrated, not looking for a pitch
- Reference their pain — Show you understand their specific issue
- Provide value first — Offer insight before asking for anything
